Wow Gary is a scary place. My sister was a victim of rape in a park in Gary. She recognized the man later and successfully prosecuted the man with time in jail. They knew Mayor Hatcher so it was in that era.
They ran an Episcopal church in Gary. The neighborhood was completely black. I remember a neighborhood that was highy neglected, once prosperous but since the Gary Works was run down so was the neighborhood. They adopted an unwanted black boy through the church when he was 5 or 6. I think remember how dramatized he was on his first day at my sister’s house.
My sister died this year and coincidently I got back in touch with Mark. He is wonderful man with a family and a strong believer in the Lord. A sweet man.
You are right a black woman hasn’t been a subject of a nationwide event like Gabbie. I don’t think it’s because we don’t care as a nation.
