It seems like everyone has own meaning for the term racism. Well here is the meaning from the Oxford Dictionary
The inability or refusal to recognize the rights, needs, dignity, or value of people of particular races or geographical origins. More widely, the devaluation of various traits of character or intelligence as 'typical' of particular peoples.
I have doing a lot of research on the topic. Just about every article I read on the topic always says says something like
a typical white person believes...
And then onto what happened in 1619 or the South before the Civil or the South after the Civil War or real estate redlining before it was illegal or how blacks couldn't vote or be on juries in the South in the 50's and 60's or how white police officers kill blacks indiscriminately now.
All these sins happened way before I was born or acts by criminals who are wearing uniforms.
And yet because I was born white I'm responsible.
Honestly, I don't wake up in the morning thinking about how I am white and have white privilege. I don't think in terms of white or black or Asian or Hispanic or Indian, native or otherwise.
In this country as a white person I don't have any power over any other race legally or otherwise. I guess if I hired people I could select by race. If I did and it was proven I did I would be in a bunch of legal trouble. Likewise if I fired a person because I didn't like their race or gender or sexual orientation I would end up getting fired myself. if I insult a person on account of their race in the grocery store if I am lucky I will just get yelled at and rightly fully so. I would even think to do this.
So many people of these race advocates are living in the past. In the past blacks, native Indians and my Irish immigrant relatives and many other groups were persecuted for their race or immigrant status ? They sure were and it was wrong. As a society, America has corrected these wrongs and sometimes if was very painful.
That isn't to say America doesn't have problems.
Two groups come to mind that should have grievances. The part of the 2 million incarcerated individuals that should not be in jail. The other group are the inner city kids that aren't getting an good education. These poor kids are condemned to a lifetime of lost opportunities.
Each race thinks their race is better. There is no harm in it unless they impose their beliefs or prejudices on another race.
