Having seem the “plight" of women first hand growing up in the 50’s it really wasn’t too bad. Sure there were abusive spouses then as there are now. There are a lot of women today who would look forward to free time during the day once the kids are in school or out of the house. I think women are finding out, just like men have always known, that they call it work because it’s work. You work to support the ambitions of management not yours.
Your work in raising children is rewarding. If you do it right, your children prosper long after you are gone. You can’t say about your work product.
Of course, these are all generalities. Women in poor families don’t have the same choices as those in better circumstances. My mother and my mother’s friends had a pretty good life. It’s not for everybody but these women seemed very satisfied with their life’s work.
